Who we are
The Escape Game is run by Ben Dennis, an individual based in the United Kingdom, who is responsible for the information described here. Contact: didyoumakeit.team@gmail.com.
What we collect
- The name you type. It is shown publicly on the leaderboard, so please use a nickname and not your full name.
- A random device ID. A random code created in your browser the first time you play. It contains nothing about you.
- Your game results. When each game started and finished, how many levels you cleared and your time.
- Technical information. Like every website, our hosting provider's servers receive your IP address and browser details when you visit, and keep short-term logs for security and troubleshooting.
We do not ask for your email address, we have no accounts or passwords, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
Why we use it
We use this information to run the game, show the leaderboard and play counts, and prevent cheating and abuse. Our legal basis under UK data protection law is our legitimate interest in running a fair, working game.
Cookies and storage on your device
We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. We keep three small items in your browser's local storage, all needed for the game to work as you would expect:
- your name, so you do not have to retype it;
- your random device ID;
- a note that you have seen the storage notice, so it does not appear again.
You can remove these at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Who else handles the information
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Supabase stores the names and results, in a European data centre.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a real person is starting each game. To do this, Cloudflare receives your IP address and information about your browser, and may store a small item on your device for security purposes.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, which means your browser contacts Google's servers to download them.
Some of these companies may process information outside the UK. They do so under their own data protection terms. We do not sell information to anyone.
How long we keep it
Names and results stay on the leaderboard for as long as the game is running, unless you ask us to remove them sooner. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, including removing your name and scores from the leaderboard. Email didyoumakeit.team@gmail.com and tell us the name you played under and roughly when. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
